LAPD Embroiled In Nude Photo Scandal, Again

Months after an LAPD $4 million nude photo harassment verdict, an officer faces charges of circulating nude photos of another officer.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A Los Angeles police officer is facing charges stemming from allegations that he distributed "intimate" photos of his wife to other LAPD officers without her consent. His wife is also an LAPD officer.

Brady Lamas, 45, is charged with six misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct by distributing multiple private intimate images without consent, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. District Attorney George Gascón blasted Lamas in a statement announcing the charges Thursday.

"No one should be subjected to these cruel and invasive actions," Gascón said. "As a law enforcement officer who encounters victims each day, he should know the trauma that is caused when someone's privacy is violated."

Lamas could not be reached for comment Thursday. He is free on bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

The LAPD confirmed that Lamas is the subject of a months-long internal investigation.

"Lamas has been assigned home since Jan. 31, 2022, pending an internal investigation, stemming from a criminal investigation being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department," according to an LAPD statement.

"The department is fully cooperating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's Office with this matter and is troubled by the officer's alleged off-duty conduct which does not reflect the values of the Los Angeles Police Department."

The Los Angeles Times reported that Lamas' wife sought a restraining order against her husband after she found explicit photos of her on his phone on Jan. 30. In the court documents, she alleged that her husband had nude photos and other explicit videos of her and shared them with a man she didn't know on the messaging app Kik, the Times reported.

“My own husband is a predator and he preyed on me,” she wrote. “I would have preferred that he punched me in the face.”

“What is worse is this humiliation will keep repeating, perhaps forever, because the private pictures and graphic videos are now in the hands of strangers and multiple co-workers at the LAPD,” she wrote. "I did not know the photos were taken of me and did not give my consent for any photos of me to be shared with anyone."

According to the court filing, photos of her were surreptitiously taken during visits to a doctor's office following breast- augmentation surgery, the Times reported.

After the photos were circulated unbeknownst her, some male LAPD employees would stare at her and make comments such as "Brady is a lucky man," according to the Times.

The case marks the LAPD's third high-profile sexual harassment case of late. In each of the cases, female officers allege a culture in which co-workers share explicit photos and make sexually-charged remarks.

In September, the city was ordered to pay $4 million to LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza, who was victimized by fellow offers who shared images of a nude photo after doctoring it to look like her.
