LAPD On Tactical Alert Amid Calls For Violence Over Abortion Ruling
Los Angeles police officials are investigating calls for violence in the wake of the court's decision to overturning abortion rights.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department was on tactical alert Friday night in the face of multiple demonstrations to protest the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning federal abortion protections under Roe v. Wade. The LAPD declared the assemblies unlawful after protestors clashed with a line of officers and took over the northbound side of the Harbor(110) Freeway at Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles.
At the same time, police department officials said they are investigating calls for violence in the wake of the court's decision to repeal reproductive rights. Detectives are working to "assess and identify" potential threats made by groups calling for violence, the department announced.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore said the department has been made aware of "extremist groups calling for a 'Night of Rage'... directing violence towards reproductive and family advocacy groups, federal courthouses, and faith-based organizations and houses of worship."
The LAPD did not identify the groups behind the threats. they allegedly called for the violence to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Moore said. However, authorities have not identified any specific or credible threat against any organization in Los Angeles.

"The LAPD is committed to protecting all persons and organizations here in Los Angeles," Moore said. "We are taking a proactive approach to identifying any potential threats and working to disrupt any potential criminal acts related to this court decision. Please continue to be proactive in your security measures and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this issue."
By 9 p.m., police had declared the protests unlawful though crowds continued to march throughout downtown. Police officers formed skirmish lines near 5th and Main streets where protesters clashed with officers.
