For all the lifestyle changes and sacrifices we’ve all made during the COVID-19 pandemic, one segment of the community perhaps affected the most has been small business owners.

With small businesses from restaurants to contractors to tech companies forced to adapt to new ways of doing business, or even worse being forced to temporarily close until they can return to work and serve their customers again, many local businesses are finding themselves victim to predatory behavior from insurance providers.

As part of owning a small business, many insurance providers offer what’s known as business interruption insurance, a form of insurance that will replace business income in the event that the business is forced to temporarily cease operations due to what’s known as a ‘business interruption event’.

However, it’s not always as cut-and-dry as that. Due to the extreme circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and the economic impact it has had on businesses across America, many businesses are getting their claims denied, or otherwise turned away by the insurance companies.

This has led to an increase in lawyers being asked to help stand up to the insurance companies on behalf of small businesses, which can create new and uncharted legal territory for all involved. As a result, local attorney Bradley Wallace will be hosting a 90-minute webinar on May 21st for lawyers facing the challenge of representing businesses against the insurance companies.

The webinar will be free to plaintiff attorneys only, and will cover topics related to the potential issues, challenges, and complications around this particular area of practice. In addition to legal strategy, the webinar will also cover case precedent and examples of the impact of differing insurance policies with a 30-minute Q&A session.

Prior to the start time, registration for the webinar will be available on Zoom. More information can be found on the Wallace Firm blog.
