Longtime Lakers Announcer Lawrence Tanter Retires From Gameday Role
Tanter, widely known as the "Voice of the Lakers," has served as the team's public address announcer since 1982.

EL SEGUNDO, CA — Longtime Lakers public address announcer Lawrence Tanter is stepping away from his gameday role after 43 seasons and has been named special adviser for game presentation, the team announced Tuesday.
Tanter, widely known as the "Voice of the Lakers," has served as the team's public address announcer since 1982.
In his new position, Tanter will assist the organization with its game presentation efforts, providing guidance and institutional knowledge drawn from more than four decades with the franchise, according to the team.

"Lawrence Tanter has been an integral part of the Lakers gameday experience for more than four decades, setting the tone for countless memorable moments with his professionalism, energy and signature booming voice," Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss said in a statement. "Since the 1980s, LT has narrated every chapter of Lakers basketball, connecting generations of fans, players, coaches and staff while becoming a trusted and unforgettable part of the Lakers experience. I am incredibly grateful for everything he has given to this franchise."
A Chicago native, Tanter's tenure with the Lakers spanned 10 NBA championships, 16 Western Conference titles and some of the most successful eras in franchise history.

During the NBA's pandemic-era bubble in 2020, Tanter recorded game introductions from his home studio to help recreate the familiar atmosphere of Lakers basketball.
The team did not name a successor for Tanter in Tuesday's announcement.
