Los Angeles County Unemployment Up Slightly Last Month

LOS ANGELES, CA — Seasonally adjusted unemployment in Los Angeles County rose to 5 percent in August, up slightly from the prior month, according to state data released Friday.
The figures from the Employment Development Department reflect adjustments that reflect predictable seasonal patterns that reveal how unemployment changes from month to month, according to officials.
August's 5 percent number is up from 4.9 percent in July. In August 2022, the county's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

LA County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is higher than the statewide rate of 4.6 percent in August. The statewide rate remained unchanged from July. It was 3.8 percent in August 2022.
Nationwide figures were 3.8 percent in August, 3.5 percent in July and 3.7 percent in August 2022.

Total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 8,600 positions between July and August to reach more than 4.6 million.
The government sector showed the biggest increase, adding 4,400 jobs, according to the EDD.
