Man Dies In Act Of 'Self Mutilation' In Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man died near the LA Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday from what the Los Angeles Police Department described as "self-mutilation."

Police responded at 3:40 a.m. Saturday to the intersection of Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard, Officer Jeff Lee told City News Service.

"They found somebody suffering from self-mutilation," Lee said. "The individual was cutting himself, bleeding."

Lee could not confirm a KTLA5 report that cited a news videographer at the scene who said the man cut off his penis.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and an investigation was underway.
