Manhattan Beach Actor Cody Cowell Discusses His Goals For 2020
SAG Actor and Coach Cody Cowell Seeking Bigger Roles as an actor in 2020. He started his career by believing in his abilities and potential.

Actor Cody Cowell, born and raised in Manhattan Beach, has demonstrated his range as an actor, where he has shown his strength and chameleon-like ability by authentically portraying a wide range of characters. In a unique manner, he took the initiative as an actor and by becoming his very own manager in charge of his own career early on, booking approximately 50 roles to date. In a recent interview Cowell discussed how he began to book work without representation for many years. “Since I was a child, I knew and believed that acting was going to be my career, but I had no idea of how or when it would happen, I began my journey to achieve my dream of being a full-time working actor, years ago. One of the first roles for which he was cast includes “True Blood.” Cowell states, “I played a bodyguard to The Queen vampire on “True Blood. This led to Cowell's SAG Eligibility.
Cowell continued, “I really had no idea about how significant this role would prove to be in terms of my career, because I never saw the show before and I didn't realize that I was going to get my SAG Eligibility from it. I was eligible for my SAG card for many years and I finally got my Sag card just this year.” Cody Cowell now has representation with a SAG / Aftra Agency, specifically “National Talent LA.”
Cowell discussed his love for portraying different characters, and his ability to take on “physically, mentally, energetically and emotional characteristics that get him out of his comfort zone. “I love to do roles that impact and inspire people.
Describing his most memorable role, Cowell states,
“I went in to read for a character who was a very loyal and dedicated husband and father whose wife was cheating on him, and as I was going through the scene in front of the casting people, I totally lost it, meaning I started to cry. This role definitely allowed me the opportunity to show my ability to connect with the character that I was portraying and through doing this, I showed that I could genuinely portray the emotions associated with the scene.
Continuing,
“I take on all of the feelings of the character I am portraying ( doesn't mean it's always fun). I go through what my character is feeling by bringing back experiences that I've had and from which I've healed. I’ve also learned to embrace the essence of a character down to a character's mannerisms and how I realize that the character would feel given each scenario that I am portraying.”
Cowell has experienced a wide range of experiences in life, and during the interview he discussed how this has shaped him as a person, experiencing a lot of joy at times and at other times, a lot of pain and heartache. “I had a huge awakening from a devastating life experience and decided to fully engross myself in acting, and to charge after my dream of being a full-time working actor. I didn't know where to start, so without any pictures, resume or any help nor guidance initially, I wrote a paragraph describing myself physically and what I felt my best qualities are and found a casting site, and then I started to submit myself for a variety of roles.”
Concluding, “I always loved escaping through movies and was very passionate about acting out parts in the films I enjoyed, breathing life into the characters that impacted me. I realize that I have had a natural talent and passion for acting early on in my life. I experienced painful and physically challenging literal growing pains, which I had to overcome. I was not barely five feet tall entering high school and grew one foot, four inches and 60 pounds through high school and early years of college. Now I have a deep resonating voice, and I am 6'4" - 230 lbs pounds. I excel in a number of sports and competed in Soccer, Martial Arts and went on and played Pro Beach Volleyball, this adds to my ability as an actor to bring these strengths to the table.”
Cody Cowell is currently in production as an actor in “The Light Dares to Desert Me” in his role as Thomas. In 2020, according to Cowell, “I want to achieve my dream of becoming a full-time working actor, and I want to show my kids, whom I am most proud of, that dreams do come true. According to Cowell, his kids take after their dad in terms of their athletic prowess. His son plays volleyball for the University of Hawaii, and his daughter plays volleyball at her university.
