Metro Opens Applications For 2027 Youth Council
Metro will accept applications through Sept. 29 from county residents ages 14 to 17.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Applications opened Tuesday for Los Angeles County teenagers interested in serving on Metro's 2027 Youth Council, which gives young people an opportunity to weigh in on public transportation projects and initiatives.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will accept applications through Sept. 29 from county residents ages 14 to 17, according to the agency.
Council members serve one-year terms and participate in Metro events and activities, leadership development and civic engagement programs. Members also receive a stipend and certificate of participation at the end of their terms.

"Youth voices are absolutely critical to the future of transit in our region," Metro Board Chair and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said. "Metro's Youth Council helps us better understand how we can best meet the needs of our young riders while providing meaningful leadership opportunities for the next generation of public servants."
Metro will hold its annual Youth Summit from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ticket Concourse at Los Angeles Union Station. The event is intended for young people interested in joining the council and will focus on transit equity, accessibility and technology.

Members interested in leadership positions can serve on the council's cabinet as chair, vice chair, secretary, communications officer or special event coordinator.
"I continue to be amazed and inspired by the dedication and thoughtful feedback of the young people who are part of Metro's Youth Council," Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said. "They have their fingers on the pulse and are committed to helping us make transportation better now and in the years to come."
The Youth Council is entering its fifth year. Metro officials said its members have established a GoPass Task Force aimed at increasing school registration in the agency's fare-free transit pass program for students.
