Moaning Over PA System Interrupts American Airlines Flight
An "irritating," "awkward" and "entertaining" moaning sound blasted over the PA system throughout the flight from LAX to Dallas.

LOS ANGELES, CA — American Airlines on Tuesday blamed a mechanical issue for the moaning sounds blasting over a plane’s PA system during a recent flight from LAX to Dallas.
The strange sound, which one passenger described as a cross between an “orgasm and vomiting” apparently lasted for the duration of the flight. Flight attendants and passengers said it made for an irritating, awkward and, frankly, entertaining flight.
“All I know is that it was thoroughly entertaining and the best in-flight entertainment I’ve had in quite some time,” passenger Emerson Collins told KTLA.

Collins posted a video to social media sharing the experience of the bemoaned flight. While he was struck by the hilarity of the noise, the flight’s clearly rattled flight attendants were not.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we realize there is an extremely irritating sound coming over the public announcements. The flight deck is trying to troubleshoot, trying to turn it off,” a flight attendant says over the bedeviled PA system. “So, please be patient with us, we know it’s a very odd anomaly, and none of us are enjoying it, so we do appreciate your attention just for a few more moments until we figure out how to turn it off.”

Collins, an actor and film producer, helpfully provides facial expressions to go along with the sounds. Sometimes he nods thoughtfully, other times his eyes bulge in alarm.
The weirdest flight ever. These sounds started over the intercom before takeoff and continued throughout the flight. They couldn’t stop it, and after landing still had no idea what it was. pic.twitter.com/F8lJlZHJ63

“Someone on this flight seems to have broken into the intercom system and continues to make a sound that is somewhere between an orgasm and vomiting,” he tells his viewers.
However, that was not the case, American Airlines claims.
“The PA systems onboard our aircraft are hardwired and there is no external access. Following the initial report, our maintenance team thoroughly inspected the aircraft and the PA system and determined the sounds were caused by a mechanical issue with the PA amplifier, which raises the volume of the PA system when the engines are running,” the airline told KTLA.
