📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. On Saturday, the Japanese American National Museum hosted the 2023 Los Angeles Day of Remembrance that called attention to the forced World War II incarceration of more than 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry. Survivors of Manzanar were present and told their stories. If you weren’t able to attend, you can watch the event on YouTube. (Japanese American National Museum)
  2. On Sunday afternoon, the 6th Street Bridge was — once again — taken over. This time, motorcyclists en masse descended on the bridge and created a traffic jam. What is the police department’s reaction? “Those involved will be held accountable.” (ABC)
  3. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to 963 West 43rd Place on Monday in the late morning. A large single-family home was on fire and had “heavy pressurized smoke coming from the vents.” Firefighters immediately searched the residence and found and rescued seven people. Concurrently, other firefighters ventilated the roof. Two of the residents went to the hospital, as did one firefighter. We have no word yet on what caused the blaze. (LAFD)
  4. Last time, we talked about the battery recycling plant that left an area surrounding it contaminated with lead and other toxins. At that time, we learned that the city was going to ask the EPA for help. However, on Monday we learned that the state’s Department of Toxic Substances Control, which is in charge of the cleanup, failed to spend money it had. As a result, the money went back to the general fund. (AOL)
  5. Don’t put away those sweaters and the heavy jacket just yet. The National Weather Service warns Angelenos that — starting today, Tuesday — we’ll have “a lot of cold air and a lot of wind.” In fact, the experts are going so far as to call it the “coldest storm” of this winter, if not of the “last several years.” Yikes! (LAist)
