Motorcyclist Fatality On 5 Freeway Prompts Rush-Hour SigAlert

Several lanes of the northbound side of the freeway remained closed Tuesday evening.

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a sedan and possibly a big rig on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Santa Fe Springs, triggering a rush-hour SigAlert Tuesday.

The collision was reported about 4:05 p.m. near the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and the city's border with Downey, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name was withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

The three left lanes of the northbound Santa Ana Freeway south of East Florence Avenue were closed for an unknown duration as authorities investigated the collision. The California Highway Patrol reported several bikers and big rigs stopped at the scene. As of 6:30 p.m., the SigAlert remained in effect.
