Music Center Extends Spotlight Scholarship Deadline
The Music Center extended its deadline for talented high school students to apply for its annual Spotlight program scholarship program.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Music Center Tuesday announced an extension to Thursday of the deadline to apply for its annual Spotlight program, which offers more than $100,000 in scholarships to Southern California high school students interested in the performing arts.
"Spotlight alumni are performing with the world's best dance companies, top orchestras and leading jazz clubs; singing in the leading opera houses; and starring on Broadway. They are also major executives working behind- the-scenes in arts schools, institutions and businesses," according to a Music Center statement.
All students who apply receive written feedback from a panel of judges and a certificate of achievement.

"In addition, they have an opportunity to receive valuable audition experience and knowledge in their performance disciplines through master classes and performance," according to The Music Center. "Students also experience a supportive environment in which to develop important life skills, including building self-esteem, preparation and perseverance."
High school students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply for free. The total number of applicants is limited to 400 per category.

In the first round, students submit an online video in one or more of the following categories: acting, ballet, classical instrumental, classical voice, jazz instrumental, non-classical dance and non-classical voice.
Semifinalists and honorable mentions from the previous year bypass the first round and advance automatically to the second round of live auditions. Students who advance to this round will audition before a panel of judges.
Sixteen semifinalists in each category will participate in a master class to gain feedback before their semifinal audition. Two grand prize finalists and an honorable mention in each category are announced after the semifinal auditions. Spotlight will conclude with a grand finale evening performance at The Music Center's Ahmanson Theatre on May 30, 2020.
