LOS ANGELES, CA — A package addressed to "Anne Thrax'' was sent to the South Los Angeles office of Congresswoman Rep. Maxine Waters Tuesday, prompting a police and hazardous materials team investigation.

The office at 10124 S. Broadway was evacuated after the item was found about 2:35 p.m., according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section. Police requested a hazardous materials response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, which determined the item was not dangerous, Lopez said. Major crimes detectives are investigating the source of the item, he said.

No injuries have been reported. Waters, one of President Donald Trump's most vocal critics in congress, drew the ire of Trump supporters and white supremacist groups after she called for is impeachment. One such group, The Oath Keepers, an armed rightwing group, aborted a protest outside Waters' offices last week after accusing her of inciting violence against members of the Trump administration who are seen out in public. The protest was scrubbed when dozens of counter-protesters showed up.
