Pointe Fire Threatens Santa Clarita Homes, Prompts Evacuation Warning

SANTA CLARITA, CA — A brush fire threatened homes, disrupted Metro service and prompted a school to shelter in place Wednesday afternoon in Santa Clarita, according to multiple reports.

The Pointe Fire was reported shortly before 1:40 p.m. near Centre Pointe Parkway and Golden Triangle Road, KHTS reported.

Los Angeles County firefighters arrived about six minutes after being dispatched at 1:41 p.m., department spokesperson Kaitlyn Aldana told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.

The fire had burned about 5 acres in medium brush by Wednesday afternoon, according to the reports. Aerial footage showed flames spreading through brush near Photoflash Road and toward Soledad Canyon Road, CBS Los Angeles reported.

Homes near Doreen Place were threatened, and authorities issued an evacuation warning for the SCL-CARLBOYER zone, according to KHTS and The Signal.

The warning area includes commercial properties along Centre Pointe Parkway, as well as Bowman High School, Walmart, Sam’s Club and MB2 Entertainment, The Signal reported, citing the Genasys evacuation map.

Notre Dame Children’s Academy was placed under a shelter-in-place order, KHTS reported.

Metro service was also suspended between the Newhall and Via Princessa stations because of the fire, according to the outlet.

The response was upgraded to a second alarm as additional crews worked to contain the flames. Fire officials warned that the blaze had the potential to grow to 100 acres during its first hour if conditions worsened, according to KHTS and first responder radio traffic cited by the Signal.

Residents near the fire were urged to monitor official evacuation information through Genasys Protect and prepare to leave if conditions changed.
