Police Shoot, Kill Armed Man Linked To Earlier Gas Station Shooting In South LA: LAPD
The officer-involved shooting took place early Friday, police say.
LOS ANGELES, CA — An armed man was shot and killed by police in the Westmont area of South Los Angeles after an earlier shooting at a gas station, the Los Angeles Police Department said Friday.
According to the LAPD on X, an officer-involved shooting investigation took place in the area of W. 111th Street and Van Buren Avenue in South Los Angeles.
Based on preliminary information, the LAPD said, on Friday at about 1 a.m., LAPD officers assigned to the southeast division responded to a radio call of an "assault with a deadly weapon — shots fired" at a gas station in the 11000 block of Vermont Avenue.

The call indicated that the adult man shot another man in the abdomen and fled from the location, police said.
Officers received the description of the suspect and his direction of travel and broadcast the information to alert additional responding units, police said.

LAPD officers assigned to the 77th Division located the suspect in the area of 112th Street and Van Buren Avenue, police said.
The officers observed the man armed with a handgun and gave him commands; he did not comply, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting, police said.
The man was struck by officer's gunfire and taken into custody, police said.
LA County Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased, police said.
No officers or additional community members were injured as a result of the incident, police said.
The man injured in the first shooting was treated at a local hospital and is currently in stable condition, police said.
A handgun was recovered at the scene and will be booked as evidence, police said.
The LAPD force investigation division was at the scene conducting the investigation, police said.
"We ask for the community's patience as this area will be impacted for the next few hours as LAPD conducts a comprehensive investigation," police said.
