President Trump Mocked And Denounced At SAG Awards
With President Trump the unwitting "star" of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus started it by mocking his insecurity.
LOS ANGELES, CA — There were lots of winners but one clear loser at the 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday. President Donald Trump lost early and often as attendees and winners tore into him, taking aim at his chaotic ban on immigration from Muslim countries.
It started with the first winner of the night, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor honoree Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The “Veep” star took the stage and mocked the president.
"Whether the Russians did or did not hack the voting of tonight's SAG awards, I look out on the million or probably million and a half people in this room, and I say this award is legitimate, and I won," Louis-Dreyfus said, mocking Trump’s insecurity about the size of his inauguration crowd and his popular vote loss. "I'm the winner. The winner is me. Landslide."

But she quickly turned serious, tying the president’s ban on refugees and immigrants to her family’s experience fleeing the Nazis.
“I want you all to know that I am the daughter of an immigrant,” she said. “My father fled religious persecution in Nazi-occupied France. And I am an American patriot, and I love this country. And because I love this country I am horrified by its blemishes. And this immigrant ban is a blemish, and it is un-American.”

Louis-Dreyfus went on to read a statement by the Writer’s Guild of America, West condemning Trump’s “Muslim Ban.”
“It is both unconstitutional and deeply wrong to say that you cannot enter our country because of where you were born or what religion you were born into,” she read. “The Writers Guilds of America, East and West condemn Donald Trump’s profoundly un-American ‘Muslim ban,’ and applaud the Federal Court’s decision to grant a stay that will keep those being held at American airports from being forcibly returned to their countries. Human rights – including the freedoms of speech and religion – are essential to all Americans and to all who come here to build better lives.”
The attacks on Trump’s immigration policies continued throughout the night.
Simon Helberg of the “The Big Bang Theory” walked the red carpet with a sign that read “Refugees Welcome.” At his side, his wife Jocelyn Towne scrawled “Let Them In” across her chest, reported Fox News Entertainment.
Others attempted to position the arts as a contrast to the ban.
The cast of “Hidden Figures,” which one for best movie ensemble, made a call for unity.
“This story is about unity," said actress Taraji P. Henson. “This story is about what happens when we put our differences aside and we come together as a human race. We win. Love wins. Every time."
