Recognize This Man Seen Robbing An 86-Year-Old Woman?

Police are asking for help identifying this man seen stealing from an elderly woman who was knocked unconscious on an MTA bus.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police are asking the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in the robbery and beating of an 86-year-old woman that left her in critical condition.

The attack happened Aug. 8 on an MTA bus and was witnessed by several people. At least part of the robbery was captured on video. The video posted to the Los Angeles Police Department's Youtube channel shows the woman lying on moving on the curb while a man bends over her, taking her wallet. Bystanders appear to be telling him to leave her alone, but he takes her wallet and walks off.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s with a mustache, wearing a gray beanie, a dark jacket with a New York logo and dark pants.

The attack occurred at about 2:40 p.m. Aug. 8 at 24th Street and Vermont Avenue, according to police.

"When the officers arrived, they were directed to (a) suspect who was taken into custody," police said in a statement. "They located the victim, who was severely injured due to the assault."

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

"The victim had no independent recollection of the incident due to a head injury," police said. "Surveillance video from an MTA bus showed multiple witnesses to the crime. Video also showed an additional suspect remove the victim's wallet from her purse while she was on the ground and incapacitated. The suspect then fled with the victim's wallet."

The name of the suspect who was taken into custody was not immediately available.
