Record Setting Hot Spell To Last A Few Days More In LA

LOS ANGELES, CA — Warm Santa Ana winds and a ridge of high pressure sent temperatures in the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Pomona valleys and elsewhere in Los Angeles and Orange counties into the 80s Tuesday, including a record 86 in Anaheim.

The high in Anaheim erased the previous record for Feb. 25 of 85 set in 2016.

Highs reached 83 in Burbank, downtown Los Angeles, Pomona and San Gabriel, 82 in Van Nuys, 81 in Hawthorne and Long Beach Airport and 80 in Redondo Beach and Woodland Hills. Other Orange County highs included 88 at John Wayne Airport, 86 at the Fullerton Airport, 85 in Santa Ana and Yorba Linda and 84 in Lake Forest.

The region will experience weak to moderate Santa Ana winds through Thursday, with the strongest expected Tuesday and Wednesday, National Weather Service meteorologist Curt Kaplan told City News Service.

Wind advisories will be in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area and the Los Angeles County mountains.

Winds on Tuesday reached 43 mph in the Newhall Pass, 38 mph in Saugus, 37 mph in Porter Ranch and 36 mph in Chatsworth, according to the weather service.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles," according to an NWS statement. "Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects."
