Video: Robbers Knew What They Were Looking For In Brazen Freeway Heist

No arrests have been made, but CHP investigators now say they know what prompted a crew to chase and crash into a driver on the 10 Freeway.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The California Highway Patrol Monday released new details from the daring robbery that played out on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway before thousands of witnesses and shocked veteran law enforcement officers.

The Oct. 24 robbery was an organized heist specifically targeting a jeweler, California Highway Patrol Officer Roberto Gomez confirmed to Patch. Investigators did not say if the victim was transporting jewels at the time of the robbery nor what the robbers were able to take.

The brazen robbery was caught on camera.

The robbery started with a high-speed chase and crash and ended on the side of the eastbound 10 Freeway near Arlington Avenue in broad daylight.

According to the CHP, the robbers deliberately caused a crash in order to rob the driver as he emerged from the wreckage.

Video of the attack shot by one of several bystanders shows a black Dodge Caravan chasing the driver of a dark Alfa Romeo fruitlessly trying to escape with a flat tire.

According to the CHP, the Caravan caused the Alfa Romeo to crash on the side of the freeway.

Video footage shows the driver instantly exiting the wreckage and kneeling with his hands in the air, while four masked men exit the Caravan, rob him, and rifle through his car and trunk. The incident unfolded in seconds, and multiple bystanders stopped to record the robbery.

As quickly as it started, it ended with the robbers fleeing in a getaway car waiting in the middle of the 10 Freeway.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said his department is also working to solve the case that shocked the community.

“The CHP is aggressively investigating this violent attack and our investigators are assisting to help identify and bring to justice those responsible,” he wrote on social media.
