San Gabriel Officers Fatally Shoot Man During Traffic Stop

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers or others were injured.

SAN GABRIEL, CA — San Gabriel police officers fatally wounded a suspect during a traffic stop, authorities said Sunday.

The shooting was reported at 11:39 p.m. in the 1800 block of San Gabriel Boulevard, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

"During the traffic stop, the driver produced a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Koerner said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. No officers or others were injured.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were assisting San Gabriel police with the investigation, Koerner said.

San Gabriel police urged motorists to avoid San Gabriel Boulevard between Valley Boulevard and Marchall Street due to "police activity." Traffic was blocked in both directions, police tweeted. "No threat to public safety at this time, ongoing investigation only."
