Santa Clarita Brush Fire Shuts Down 14 Freeway Lanes

Ground and air crews battled a small brush fire along the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway​ Monday.

SANTA CLARITA, CA — A small brush fire forced the closure of the several Antelope Valley (14) Freeway lanes Monday afternoon. A vehicle fire spread into some nearby bringing northbound traffic to a crawl.

The fire was reported about 2:10 p.m. near Newhall Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and crews were able to douse the flames with an hour. The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that two acres of light to medium brush had burned along the northbound side of the free near Newhall Avenue in Santa Clarita. Authorities shut down three lanes to battle the blaze. Ground crews and air crews were on the scene working to contain the fire.

Two helicopters were deployed, two from the county fire department and one from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters from Angeles National Forest also assisted in battling the blaze, which was sparked when a pickup truck towing a trailer went off the side of the freeway.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
