A police officer was among two people injured in the violent Monday night incident.

PASADENA, CA — One person was killed and two others, including an officer, were injured Monday night in what the Pasadena police chief described as a "shootout" near a Metro station.

Police responded to the Metro A Line Sierra Madre Villa station following a 911 call regarding a shooting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to a Pasadena city spokeswoman.

Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Police spotted a man that fit the shooting suspect's description. When they attempted to contact the suspect, he ran from the scene, Pasadena Police Department Chief Gene Harris said, according to KTLA.

The officers caught up to the suspect at Electronic Drive and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue, spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

Harris said the suspect fired on officers. A return volley of gunfire from other officers in the chase struck and killed the suspect, KTLA reported.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the suspect's name, but family members at the scene identified him as 32-year-old Malcom Buchanan, ABC 7 reported.

The wounded officer was a five-year veteran of the department named Bryan Vasquez, according to Derderian.

Harris said Vasquez was conscious and talking as he was being led to the operating room at Huntington Hospital. “Our officer, last check at the hospital, was in surgery in unknown condition,” Harris said at a Monday night news conference.
