SigAlert: 1 Killed, 4 Kids Injured In 101 Freeway Head-On Crash

ENCINO, CA — One person was killed and at least five others were injured when an SUV crashed head-on into a big rig truck on the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino Thursday. Four of the injured were children, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash shut down several lanes of the freeway indefinitely as of 7:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Several people reported seeing the SUV driving the wrong way in the minutes leading up to the crash. The crash was reported at 7:10 p.m. near the San Diego (405) Freeway. A passenger in the SUV died at the scene, and the driver was taken into police custody. Authorities did not immediately say what the driver was arrested for.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported at least six people were injured in the crash, and the CHP reported a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
