SigAlert: Fuel Spill Backs Up 60 Freeway For Miles

The hours-long SigAlert backed up traffic for miles in the East Los Angeles area Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The California Highway Patrol issued an hours-long SigAlert for the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway Wednesday afternoon in East Los Angeles after a crash triggered a fuel spill across several lanes of the freeway.

Just before 5 p.m., the 1 and 2 lanes were reopened but lanes 3-6 remained blocked for an unknown duration of time, said CHP Officer Delos Reyes.

Approximately 50 to 60 gallons of diesel fuel spilled in the roadway, Reyes told Patch.

Cleanup crews from Caltrans are at the scene, but the lane closures have jammed up traffic for miles throughout the afternoon. The crash involving three vehicles, including a semi-truck was first reported shortly after 2 p.m. east of the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

Commuters are advised to avoid the area.
