Stolen Car Slams Into Homeless Camp, Fleeing Suspect Stabbed: PD

LOS ANGELES, CA — A stolen car chase ended in chaos early Tuesday morning when the driver slammed into a homeless encampment in Harbor City where he or one of his passengers was stabbed trying to flee the scene, according to police.

Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies had been chasing the a vehicle that was reported stolen shortly before the crash, which happened at about 2:30 a.m. at Vermont Avenue and 253rd Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The pursuing officers backed off for safety reasons, and the suspect continued on, veering off a dirt road and slamming into the encampment, according to police.

The motorist and two passengers got out of the car and ran off, but someone in the homeless encampment gave chase. The homeless person caught up with one of the fleeing suspects and stabbed him, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The injured man was taken to a hospital for treatment in unknown condition. No arrests have been made, but the investigation was continuing, police said.
