Students Stabbed, Classmate Arrested At LA Area High School
The attack took place on the second day of school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The victim's condition remains unknown.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A student at J.P. Widney High School was stabbed and another student was is in custody Tuesday in connection with the attack, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Paramedics were called to the school in the 2300 block of South Gramercy Place about 12:45 p.m. to respond to a stabbing. The victim, a student, was rushed to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department responded to the incident. According to Los Angeles School Police Department Lt. Nina Buranasombati, the parents of the students involved in the stabbing have been notified. It was unclear what prompted the stabbing, and unknown what type of weapon was used.

Authorities did not immediately have information about the circumstances leading up to the attack, which occurred on the second day of the school year.
On Monday, the Los Angeles Unified School District welcomed back nearly 500,000 students to school, vowing to make student safety a priority this year.

"We must do more in order for the students of Los Angeles and their families to feel and stay safe," Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement. "I am working with Superintendent Carvalho to ensure that we confront and address the vehicular tragedies, substance abuse and other incidents that we have seen near and in our schools."
