Suspect Arrested In Road Rage Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Toddler And Uncle: LAPD

The crash killed a 14-month-old and his uncle. The baby's father says he believes the crash may have been related to road rage.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A driver suspected of being involved in a possible road-rage crash that left a toddler and his uncle dead in Los Angeles earlier this week has been arrested, according to authorities.

The suspect has not been publicly named, but a police spokesperson said it's a man in his late 20s. The man is suspected of leaving the scene of the Playa del Rey crash on Sunday that killed a 14-month-old child and a 25-year-old man, KTLA reported.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 4:34 a.m. Sunday to a collision in the 6800 Vista Del Mar Avenue, just south of Culver Boulevard and a couple of blocks from the ocean. Authorities said a blue BMW 5-series was headed northbound on Vista Del Mar when it was struck by a southbound Jeep Cherokee, which crossed over into oncoming traffic.

Two critically injured victims — a woman who was about 30 years old and the child — and one other person who was in the BMW were taken to a hospital, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

The child was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner identified the baby as Roger Sandoval Farias.

The 25-year-old man who also died in the collision was Osvaldo Sandoval Amaya.

The person in the BMW who was injured was 15-year-old Andrea Ortiz, the sister of 25-year-old Oscar Sandoval, the father of the late baby Roger, KTLA reported.

Ortiz was placed on life support after the crash, according to the station.

Oscar Sandoval said he believes the crash may have been intentional. Family members told KTLA that the driver of the white Jeep had been flashing his lights and trying to cut them off moments before the collision.

The driver fled the scene on foot and was seen running northbound on Vista Del Mar, leaving the Jeep at the location, police said.
