NORTHRIDGE, CA —A suspect in a dramatic smash-and-grab robbery robbery Sunday at the Macy's department store at the Northridge Fashion Center has been arrested, the Los Angeles Police Department announced.

Detectives believe the suspect is linked to a series of similar heists, Police Chief Michel Moore told the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting.

"We also believe this individual is responsible for a number of other similar type occasions of these smash-and-grab-type robberies," Moore said, according to ABC 7 Eyewitness News.

The robbery occurred Sunday morning shortly after the store opened. Police received a call at 11:08 a.m. of a robbery involving five to six males at the Northridge Fashion Center in the 930o block of Tampa Avenue, said LAPD Officer Tony Im. The robbers used hammers and bodily force, said Im.

According to police the robbers were part of an organized crew of smash and grab robbers. On Sunday, they made off with about $20,000 in expensive cologne and perfume, according to the police.

The thieves escaped in a black Infiniti with no license plate last seen headed in an unknown direction. Video posted on social media showed a dramatic scene with men dressed in black hoodies smashing through display cases. One suspect was putting the perfume into a black trash bag.

The robbery was over in just moments.
