Swim Chase: MacArthur Park Assault Suspect Tries To Outswim LAPD

LOS ANGELES, CA — An assault suspect made the ill-considered decision to swim to freedom Monday at MacArthur Park.
Officers aboard boats took the suspect into custody soon after it started just after 4 p.m. Monday. The man he allegedly wielded an ax and then jumped into MacArthur Park lake in the Westlake district, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers in boats cornered him in waste-deep water near the edge of the lake where the man spent about 15 minutes pleading his case before surrendering.
