Syringes Found In Los Angeles Playground Sandbox
Police suspect the needles found in a playground sandbox are from drug users.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA — A gnarly discovery at a Sherman Oaks playground has families on edge today.
Los Angeles police have placed additional patrols around Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center at 14201 Huston St. after numerous used syringes were found in the playground's sandbox. The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks cleared the park after a brief closure thursday. Sifting through the sand, crews found an addition syringe, according to LAPD Capt. Liliana Carranza.
An officer at the park told KTLA investigators believe the needles are from drug users who shoot up in the park.

The park was reopened Friday. Children hit the playground as LAPD officers remained on scene, according to KTLA.
