CALIFORNIA — Once again, the Forbes world’s billionaires list is dominated by Golden State residents with its real estate barons, celebrities and tech founders flush from the AI boom.

Though Californians may dominate the list, they are slipping from the top 10 with luminaries such as Elon Musk, the world's second richest man fleeing California, citing the state's tax burden on its wealthiest residents. Musk, who is worth an estimated $195 billion thanks to his ownership of SpaceX and Tesla is a Californian expat now living in Austin Texas.

This year French businessman Bernard Arnault, the head of luxury goods giant LVMH, leads the list with a value of $233 billion. He’s $38 billion richer than the world’s No. 2,

Forbes says Musk is the richest U.S. resident, followed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who owns The Washington Post, as well, according to The Forbes 400. He is worth an estimated $194 billion, Forbes said.

Fourth on the list is California's Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder. He is the Golden State's richest man having seen his net worth triple to $182.2 billion in just a year.

California also has some of the most famous names on the list including Magic Johnson ($1.2 billion), LeBron James ($1.2 billion), Tyler Perry ($1.2 billion), Kim Kardashian ($1.7 billion), Jay-Z ($2.5 billion), Oprah Winfrey, ($2.4 billion), Steven Spielberg, ($4.8 billion), George Lucas ($5.5 billion).

Overall, the 400 richest billionaires in America have more wealth than a year ago, and there are now more billionaires than ever: 2,781 in all, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021, Forbes said. Those on the list are worth a total of $14.2 trillion, up by $2 trillion from 2023.

The United States is now home to a record 813 billionaires worth a combined $5.7 trillion. One of the most famous, former President Donald Trump, didn't make this year's top 400 list. He ranked 1,438 on Forbes' list with a net worth of $2.3 billion, down from $2.5 billion a year ago.

To calculate net worth, Forbes used stock prices and exchange rates from March 10 to determine the ranking, but the list updates wealth in real-time.
