📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
- Did you lose power Monday morning? An explosion downtown damaged electrical vaults, which led to a power outage for about 685 downtown residents and another 3,200 in El Sereno. Because of the damage, officials closed 3rd Street between Omar Street and Central Avenue. The lights came back on later in the morning for the downtown customers and in the afternoon for the El Sereno residents. (Patch)
- Boyle Heights has a trash pick-up problem and residents have just about had it. Activists with First Blocks Of Whittier Boulevard collected a load of trash and dumped it on the steps of City Hall over the weekend. The group, which is well-known in the neighborhood for doing regular street cleanups, said that “as long as we have trash in our community, we will bring it to you if you fail to deal with it!” (First Blocks Of Whittier Boulevard)
- Roscoe’s Chicken ’n Waffles closed its location at 5006 West Pico Boulevard over the weekend. It’s a big deal because the eatery had been in place for three decades and hosted the who’s who of politics, sports and entertainment. The good news is that there’s another Roscoe’s at 1865 South La Brea Avenue, and another six throughout the greater L.A. area. (Roscoe’s Chicken ’n Waffles)
- Michael Strahan, who played 15 seasons with the New York Giants, received his star on the Walk of Fame on Monday. After retirement from the sport, he began as analyst on Fox NFL Sunday, which resulted in “multiple Sports Emmy Award nominations for outstanding sports personality, studio analyst.” You can see it near 6918 Hollywood Boulevard. (NBC)
- If you’re planning a trip to New Zealand this fall, Delta will have a new flight you might be interested in. The airline will introduce its new non-stop route to Auckland from the Los Angeles International Airport. “Daily flights between New Zealand’s largest city and Los Angeles will begin Oct. 28 on an Airbus A350-900 aircraft.” (Delta)
