Trump Traffic: LA Drivers Should Avoid These Closures And Jams

Here's how President Donald Trump's Los Angeles visit will affect your commute through Wednesday afternoon.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police are warning drivers to avoid extreme rush hour congestion during President Donald Trump's stay at a downtown hotel where the president is expected to spend the night.

According to the LAPD, the following streets will be CLOSED until 1 p.m. Wednesday

  • Figueroa Street between Sixth and Eighth streets;
  • Wilshire Boulevard between Flower Street and Beaudry Avenue
  • Seventh Street between Flower and Bixel streets.

While details of the President's trip and travel route have been kept secret due to security concerns, the Los Angeles Times reported that Trump is likely to be staying at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel at the Wilshire Grand Center. According to the newspaper, officials at the building, which is the tallest on the West Coast, warned guests to prepare for a “VIP/high security visitor” who will spark security measures that “will have a significant impact in and around the building.”

Trump was expected to touch down at LAX by 3:35 p.m. Tuesday before taking a helicopter to Santa Monica and motorcading to a fundraiser at 4:25 p.m. at the Beverly Park home of Shari and Edward Glazer, co-chairman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was expected to return to his downtown hotel by 8:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Protesters organized along the President's route. However, most of his commute wass likely to take place in the air.

As of 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, a a stretch of the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway was closed in West Los Angeles, along with the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, as Trump made his way from Santa Monica Airport to the Beverly Park area for the fundraiser. By 4:20 p.m., the freeways were reopened.

Motorists were also being urged to avoid the area from Fifth Street and Olympic Boulevard, between Union and Grand avenues until the president leaves California Wednesday.
