Robert Galtman, 48, who is accused of allegedly killing the couple, led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase into the Newhall Area, where officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect failed to yield and a pursuit ensued just before 5:30 p.m., Margaris added.

Driving a black Kia sedan, Galtman was captured via aerial footage on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway near Roxford Street. The pursuit traveled into Kern for 1 1/2 hours from the Newhall, Fort Tejon and Antelope Valley areas.

CHP Antelope Valley units successfully deployed a spike strip and used a pursuit intervention technique to stop the vehicle. Galtman was safely taken into custody around 7:10 p.m. Thursday.

"A double murder suspect was swiftly taken into custody today because of our partnership with Pomona Police Department, the quick thinking of our CHP Crime Suppression Team, our CHP airplane, the IRIS unit, and, ultimately, the collaboration between all of our patrol units on the ground in the pursuit, who were able to take the suspect into custody safely," said CHP Chief Chris Margaris.

Galtman remains in custody on $3.1 million bail, KTLA 5 reported Friday.

No information on a motive has been released.
