BURBANK, CA — Having seen it all is a badge worn with pride by many in the LA area. But a horse grazing the manicured front lawns of Burbank? That's a new one.

A black and white dappled horse aptly named Oreo caused a stir when he got spooked and took off without his rider in the early morning hours Tuesday. Oreo galloped through the streets of Burbank, ignoring traffic laws and causing many a doubletake.

One alarmed witness called the police.

"A concerned citizen said she saw a riderless horse running frantically down the street with a saddle, leading her to believe a rider may have fallen off and was hurt," said Sgt. Brent Fekety.

By the time police caught up with Oreo in the area of Riverside Drive and Mariposa Street, he was grazing on someone's front yard.

Officers located the owner at the Mariposa Bridge near Valley Heart Drive and Mariposa Street, and an officer named Nicholas Moreno who grew up around horses knew how to calm Oreo.

"Officer Morena road Oreo back to the owner, where the two were happily reunited," Fekety said.
