Video Shows Moment LAPD Sergeant Hit By Accused Drunk Driver: Report

The moment accused drunk driver Alexis Carter hit Sergeant Vanessa Prentice was caught on Prentice's body-worn camera.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Video footage newly released to KABC shows the moment an accused drunk driver slammed into Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Vanessa Prentice when she was on duty in the early morning hours of Sept. 23.

Prentice was hit while she was walking from her patrol car to the scene where officers were attempting to stop a stolen vehicle in Jefferson Park, KABC reported.

The moment Prentice was hit by accused drunk driver Alexis Carter—who has been arrested on felony DUI charges—was caught on Prentice's body-worn camera, according to the outlet.

In the footage, what appears to be the camera's recording of the impact is followed by the crowding of a group of uniformed officers around Prentice, who is lying on the ground in the road.

"Officer needs help! I have an officer down!" a woman shouts in the video recording.

Prentice suffered serious injuries and spent almost a month in the hospital before being discharged last week, according to a tweet from the Los Angeles Police Protective League.
