LOS ANGELES, CA — Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to fly into Los Angeles International Airport Friday and will head to a local nonprofit to discuss the Biden administration's plans to bolster maternal health.

The vice president is expected to land at LAX shortly after 1 p.m. and will head to the Westside nonprofit Baby2Baby.

For security reasons, officials do not publicize the motorcade's route, but commuters would be well-advised to expect freeway closures and delays in the area, including the San Diego (405) Freeway and the Santa Monica (10) Freeway or Venice Boulevard.

Authorities did not say how long Harris would stay in the Los Angeles area, but she is known to spend the weekend at her Brentwood home when visiting Southern California, leading to some unexpected motorcade delays.

The vice president's visit plans were changed due to the writer's strike.

She had been scheduled to make an appearance at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday for a town hall meeting marking Mental Health Action Day. The Los Angeles Times reported that Harris pulled out of the event in a show of solidarity with striking Writers Guild of America members.

Now Harris will visit the nonprofit Baby2Baby, which provides baby supplies to low-income mothers locally and nationally, and also offers information on available government support resources.

Harris is expected to meet with a group of mothers during the visit, and discuss an administration partnership with the nonprofit to provide newborn supply kits to needy families in selected states, and details on programs supporting maternal and infant health.

Harris was in Los Angeles in mid-April, when she spent five days in the area. During that visit, she toured the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator and discussed efforts to build a "clean energy economy." She also spoke outside Los Angeles City Hall following a march for reproductive rights.
