Widespread DWP Outages Slam Los Angeles
Thousands were without power Sunday morning, and residents are asked to do their part by conserving energy during the heatwave.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Thousands of Department of Water and Power residents awoke on this sweltering Sunday morning without electricity due to widespread outages across Los Angeles.
DWP crews worked throughout the night to restore power to dozens of neighborhoods. The outages, triggered by extreme heat, were not part of the rolling blackouts ordered by the manager of the state's power grid, which declared a Stage 3 emergency statewide.
As of 8:30 a.m., there were roughly 2,600 customers without power across Los Angeles. DWP officials estimate repairs to take from four to 12 hours. According to the DWP outage map, the largest outages were affecting residents in the Encino, Tarzana, Arleta, Granada Hills, Del Rey, and Reseda areas.

"Our current estimated time to respond to outages and begin repairs is 4-12 hrs, some may take longer based on field conditions," DWP announced shortly before 9 a.m. "If you are affected by an outage, please know our crews are working as fast and safe as they can to get your power restored."
Authorities asked residents to conserve energy to help prevent more power outages Sunday. Residents are asked to turn their thermostats to 78 degrees and avoid using energy-sucking appliances between peak hours of 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.
