Wrong-Way Driver Makes U-Turn On 405, Triggers HOV Lane Crash
A driver who may have been experiencing a medical emergency drove the wrong way on the 405 Freeway, triggering a crash Sunday evening.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A wrong-way driver heading northbound in the southbound lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway triggered a crash that backed up traffic for miles Sunday evening.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. south of Burbank Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks area, according to the California Highway Patrol. As of 6 p.m., the cleanup and investigation remained ongoing. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing a vehicle making U-turn on the freeway, swerving and driving the wrong way in the carpool lane shortly before the crash.

The California Highway Patrol investigated the possibility that the driver was experiencing a medical emergency.
