13-Gun Salute Will Make Some Noise Sunday, Here's Why

Major Gen. Lawrence A. Haskins will become the new commander of the 40th Infantry Division at the Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos.

From a press release:

The sound of artillery fire will echo across communities surrounding Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos on Sunday morning (Aug. 10), but local residents should not be alarmed.

The traditional 13-gun salute by 105mm howitzers from Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 143rd Field Artillery, California Army National Guard will highlight the formal ceremony in which Major Gen. Lawrence A. Haskins will take command of the 40th Infantry Division from Maj. Gen. Keith D. Jones.

Haskins, who also serves as Commander of the California Army National Guard will also be assuming command of Joint Forces Training Base. Jones is retiring following a distinguished 42-year military career.

The ceremony is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the dedication of the new 40th Division Headquarters building at 11 a.m.
