20,000 Angels Fans Set Record for Largest Gathering Under Sombreros

Angels fans celebrated Cinco de Mayo by setting the Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people wearing sombreros.

The Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people wearing sombreros was set at tonight’s Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim game at Angel Stadium.

At the start of the fifth inning, more than 20,000 fans began wearing the sombreros they were given upon entering the stadium for the game against the Seattle Mariners. After five minutes, a Guinness adjudicator officially certified the new record, the team announced.

The previous record is unclear. A group of 1,008 wore sombreros at Portland’s Cinco de Mayo fiesta in 2012, but the record was not certified by Guinness. Another record attempt was made Saturday at Portland’s Cinco de Mayo fiesta, but was not been officially certified.
