3 Pets Killed, Woman Seriously Hurt In Walker Street Fire

Two dogs were killed and a 20-year-old woman was lucky to escape a duplex fire on Walker Street in Cypress Thursday.

CYPRESS, CA — A young woman was seriously injured and two dogs and a cat were killed Thursday in a fire at a duplex in Cypress.

The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of Walker Street, according to Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The first arriving units encountered heavy fire on the first floor and heavy smoke on the second, Kurtz said.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to Kurtz, who said two dogs and a cat perished in the fire.

Twenty-six firefighters responded and had the fire under control in about 30 minutes, Kurtz said.

The first floor was heavily damaged by fire while the second floor sustained mostly smoke damage, he said.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
