Angels Stadium 'Peeping Detective' Charged With 75 Counts: Report

A Los Angeles Police Department detective allegedly recorded videos of 37 different men inside Angels Stadium men's restroom during a game.

ANAHEIM, CA — A Torrance resident and Los Angeles Police Department detective is accused of secretly recording people inside a men's restroom at Angel Stadium has been officially charged with 75 misdemeanor counts, police said Friday.

Police said their investigation determined that the detective recorded 37 men in secret during an Angels game.

Off duty detective Ryan Caplette, 42, of Torrance, was detained at the stadium June 8.

"A civilian carried out a citizen's arrest of Caplette, telling officers the detective had been recording video in the restroom," police said in a statement.

Caplette was later released on a citation, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

"The City Attorney's Office charged Caplette with 37 counts of peeping with intent to invade privacy, 37 counts of secretly videotaping in the restroom and one count of loitering," Wyatt reported. "Caplette also allegedly committed crimes in Los Angeles, and those allegations have been referred to the LAPD for investigation."

Caplette is expected to appear in court July 22 in Fullerton. The LAPD said earlier Caplette was assigned to home duty in light of his arrest.
