NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A missing swimmer was found safe on land after an intense, multi-agency search and rescue operation in Newport Beach, multiple outlets reported.
Wesley Alan MacFarland, 47, was reported missing at around 7:45 a.m. Monday after diving into heavy waters near Newport Harbor, Surfer.com reported.
The search unfolded as a historic swell pounded the Southern California coastline over the past few weeks.

MacFarland was found safe on land late Monday night, Fox News reported. Details regarding his rescue were not immediately known.
The day-long search comes a few weeks after a 5-year-old girl was swept into a powerful current in Laguna Beach. Her body was found days later.
