Historical Society to Celebrate the 41st Anniversary of the Red Car

More than four decades ago the former tower car moved to Seal Beach, and this weekend the city historical society will commemorate its arrival.

All aboard!

The celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Red Car's arrival in Seal Beach kicks off 10 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Main Street and Electric Avenue.

The Red Car -- which is now the headquarters of the Seal Beach Historical Society’s Red Car Museum -- is a rare Pacific Electric tower car, which used to be sent out to troubleshoot problems along the 40-mile Pacific Electric LA-Newport line, according to Musuemsusa.org.

According to Antos, at the celebration they'll have a number of activities including an award for "historical man and woman of the year," a bake sale for charity, a boutique and lessons about Seal Beach history.

They'll also have a white elephant gift event and presentations from long-time local residents.

The museum is open the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, according to Antos.
