Drink Tip of the Week: Ramos Gin Fizz
Mixing the Ramos gin fizz takes skill, but it's made easier thanks to master bartender Jason Schiffer's helpful demo.
This is the fourth video in a weekly series showcasing the art of cocktail mixing, courtesy of 320 Main restaurant owner, Jason Schiffer.
The Ramos gin fizz is named after Henry C. Ramos, a New Orleans bartender who invented the cocktail back in 1888. The story goes that his bar had over 20 workers dedicated to making nothing but the Ramos gin fizz.
A complex drink, the fizz contains eight ingredients: gin, lemon juice, lime juice, simple syrup, orange flower water, heavy cream, soda water and egg white.Â

"The protein in the egg is what's going to make the drink work or not work," explained Jason Schiffer, owner and bartender at 320 Main.
Proper usage of orange flower water, a potent ingredient, is also key to a successful Ramos gin fizz, Schiffer said.  Â
