Fatal Accident Follows Huntington Beach Fender Bender

A woman from northern California was fleeing a hit-and-run fender bender today when she crashed and was fatally injured

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A woman from Northern California was identified today in the fatal car crash sustained after fleeing a minor collision.

The 44-year-old Northern California woman identified by the Orange County Coroner's office today as Sharlene Lyle of Ione, California.

She was fleeing from a fender-bender at just after 1 a.m. for unknown reasons, and crashed her car and was fatally injured, Huntington Beach police reported.

"After being involved in a minor traffic collision near Main Street and Orange Avenue, Sharlene Lyle of Ione took off northbound on Main at a high rate of speed," Huntington Beach police Sgt. Sam Shepherd said.

She lost control of her 2000 Nissan Maxima, which slammed into a tree north of Palm Avenue, in the front yard of a Huntington Beach residence at just after 1:30 a.m.

"When police arrived, she was still in the driver's seat and was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
