Gas Prices Tumble - Will it Last?

The drop in wholesale prices has lead to an unusual summer decline in prices at the pump.

The Orange County average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline has decreased 30.7 cents over the past 25 days.

On Sunday, it fell1.6 cents to $4.082, 11.1 cents less than one week ago and 13.1 cents lower than one month ago but 13.8 cents higher than one year
ago.
The decreasing pump prices are the result of a ``substantial drop'' in wholesale gasoline prices, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“Drivers should absolutely be aggressively shopping around for the best gas prices close to their normal commutes right now, because even though all local average prices are well above $4 a gallon, almost every area in Southern California has gas stations with prices of $3.99 or less,” said Spring. “Oil industry analysts last week observed a substantial drop in Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices which are bringing the lowest prices in the state to Southern California gas stations. California prices are now below those in Oregon and Washington, which have had some continued refinery production issues.”
