German Tourist Fatality; Seal Beach Man Convicted Of Drugged Manslaughter

A Seal Beach man pleaded guilty and was convicted Monday in the death of a German tourist.

SEAL BEACH, CA — A Seal Beach resident pleaded guilty Monday to the DUI manslaughter death of a 19-year-old German Tourist according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Matthew Ryan Wood, a 25-year-old resident of Seal Beach pleaded guilty of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicate, sale/transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with a firearm. Wood pleaded guilty on all counts, according to the OCDA.

Wood was convicted of driving while high on methamphetamine in Seal Beach, and will serve a maximum sentence of 12 years in state prison according to OCDA.

His sentencing will take place at the West Justice Center in Westminster on Dec. 12, OCDA spokesperson said.
