Huntington Beach Police Shooting Is Under Investigation, OCSD Says

A Sunday night incident led a Huntington Beach Police Officer to fire on a suspect, police say.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — An officer-involved shooting that occurred in Huntington Beach on Sunday is being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, OCSD said.

On Sunday, March 19, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Huntington Beach police made contact with a man and woman sitting in a black Chevrolet Camaro in the area of Beacon Hill and Lawn Haven, OCSD Lt. Lane Lagaret said. Shortly after contact was made, a shooting occurred.

The male suspect, who investigators are attempting to identify, was shot by Huntington Beach Police.

"He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries," Lagaret said.

The female suspect seated in the passenger seat was not injured in the exchange. She was identified as Kristan Leann Porter-Swartz, 26, of Antelope Valley.

"Porter-Swartz was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail for outstanding warrants for theft and drugs charges," Lagaret said.

One of the officers involved in the incident sustained an injury, was treated at the hospital and released according to Lagaret.

"The reason for the contact between Huntington Beach police and the occupants of the Camaro is currently being investigated," he said. "Per protocol, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department homicide team responded to investigate."
